Easter
Scrapbooking Ideas
by Rachel Paxton
Easter is a great time to capture family photographs for
scrapbooking. Even if you don't scrapbook, planning your picture
taking ahead of time ensures you won't miss any of these great
family memories. No family traditions? Then this is a great time
to start!
Here are some Easter photograph ideas for scrapbooking:
Photograph spring flowers in bloom. Daffodils and tulips will
make a colorful contrast to your other photographs.
Have your kids help you make Easter cookies or an Easter cake.
Snap a picture of them working in the kitchen and then make sure
to take a picture of the finished product. We made a layer cake
and arranged it on a thick piece of cardboard covered with
aluminum foil. It was lemon cake with lemon filling and pink
frosting. We decorated it with store-bought Easter candy. Around
the base of the cake we arranged Easter grass and added
chocolate eggs and peeps for decoration. It made a great
picture!
Gingerbread houses aren't just for Christmas! Make a gingerbread
house and decorate it for Easter with pastel colors and lots of
Easter candy. The possibilities are limitless.
If your family attends Easter church services, make sure to get
a picture of your girls in their Easter dresses. Dressing up is
a great excuse to take a picture.
Coloring Easter eggs never gets old, whatever the age of your
kids! They never get tired of showing you how creative they are.
Join in on the fun and then take a picture of the finished
product.
Easter egg hunts are also fun for the whole family. Take some
good action pictures and get a picture of your kids with their
Easter baskets.
Easter dinners are a great time to take family pictures. It's a
good time to take pictures of relatives you don't often see, and
fun to get pictures of the family laughing and enjoying a meal
together. Take pictures of any of the good food you want to
remember later.
Have fun picture taking, and have a happy Easter!

Edible Bird's Nest
by Amanda Formaro
This
fun craft is not only adorable when done, but it's tasty too!
Sit the kids down to make this fun spring project. Be sure to
make extras for friends and family.
You will need:
Chow mien noodles
chocolate chips or brick chocolate
Jelly beans
candy coated chocolate eggs
marshmallow chicks
peanut butter
wax paper
paper plates (colored plates optional)
Directions:
Place squares of wax paper onto to individual plates. Put chow
mien noodles in a large bowl. If using brick chocolate, break
into pieces. Melt chocolate chips or pieces in the microwave, or
over low heat on stove, just until melted. Pour melted chocolate
over chow mien noodles, mix together to coat.
Place mounds of chocolate/chow mien mixture onto several plates
(on top of waxed paper). Have children form the mixtures into
nests. Be sure the chocolate has cooled, but don't wait too long
or it will harden!
Using peanut butter as an adhesive, "glue" down the jelly beans
and candy coated chocolate eggs inside the nest cavity. "Glue"
marshmallow chick on the edge of or inside of the nest.
These make fun gifts from kids to their friends, teacher and
family members. You can also make these nests at birthday
parties as a fun and edible take home party favor.

Take the Expense
out of Your Easter Celebration
by Nancy Twigg
The Easter celebration can be
expensive, but it doesnt have to be. Here are some ideas to
help you simplify and replace the commercial aspects of the
holiday with activities that are more in keeping with the spirit
of the season.
* Do some research on how Easter is celebrated in other
cultures. Turn your celebration into a learning experience by
enjoying traditional Easter foods and activities from another
country.
* Instead of buying greeting cards, make your own. Use your
computers desktop publishing program or crayons, markers and
construction paper to make personalized Easter cards for friends
and relatives.
* If you buy gifts for the childrens Easter baskets, use
moderation. Select one item each child will truly enjoy and
supplement with inexpensive filler items. If you usually buy a
new Easter basket or bucket each year, choose a smaller one this
year that will require fewer items to fill.
* Instead of buying decorations, choose a few craft projects to
do together as a family. Do an Internet search or check out
books from the library for ideas. Use your completed projects to
decorate your home for your family celebration.
* If you use flowers as part of your celebration, keep
arrangements simple. A modest corsage or arrangement of flowers
from your own garden is much more meaningful than an expensive
purchase from the floral shop.
* Instead of spending a great deal of money on chocolate and
prepackaged candy, make homemade cookies and other sweets to be
enjoyed as part of your celebration. Your kids will enjoy making
and decorating these goodies together as a family.
* If receiving new clothes is part of your family tradition,
consider sewing them by hand to save money. If making an outfit
is too big of an undertaking, consider making one special
accessory like a hair bow, tie, sash or piece of simple jewelry
to adorn an outfit you already have.
* Rather than serving an elaborate meal with all the trimmings,
consider serving a modest meal and donating the extra money you
would have spent to an organization that feeds the hungry.
